    • Working From Home

      During COVID-19

Working from home is not an entirely new set up for a lot of employees but it’s definitely brand new for those who have been working at the business site their entire life. As governments attempt to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, businesses are rolling out business continuity plans to get their staff working-remotely. Strikingly shares a few tips on how to work from home the right way.

    • Top 10 Productive Working From Home Solutions

      1. Stick to a schedule

Working from home doesn’t give you the license to sleep in. True, you can probably wake up a little later because you don’t have to commute to work but we recommend that you stick to the same work schedule and hold yourself accountable. If your company allows you to work on a flexible schedule, choose a window that suits you and make sure to follow it.

      2. Dress up

Many people find that dressing up or at least putting on decent clothes motivates them into work-mode. If you have a morning routine - skincare, makeup, getting out of your pyjamas - do these before you sit in front of your computer even if you don't have any video conference calls planned.. They will make you feel even more prepared for tasks ahead.

      3. Remember to take breaks

One dilemma most people have when they work from home is remembering to actually take lunch breaks. When you’re at home and you have to prepare a meal for yourself, it’s easier to put the task away for later. We recommend actually taking the time to prepare a packed lunch like you would when you commute to work. Take a scheduled break every day so your co-workers are also aware of the times when you’re available.

      4. Set deadlines for projects

It’s easier to procrastinate when you know you don’t have your boss breathing down your neck physically. Motivate yourself to be more productive by setting personal deadlines. This will help you accomplish something every day rather than consistently cramming. You can even incentivize yourself for deadlines met or projects accomplished.

      5. Use online communication and project management tools and resources

Working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic is a lot easier because of the variety of remote work solutions available. Take advantage of different communication tools to always keep in touch with your team and ensure you’re all on the same page. Slack and Google Hangouts have messaging tools and file sharing capabilities that you can take advantage of. Productivity apps such as Asana and Trello can help you keep track of your team’s progress. Explore different working from home solutions to find out which ones are the best for your team.

      6. Don’t fill up your free time with more work

Some people working from home online struggle with overworking. With the morning commute out of the way, many find themselves with some free time in the morning or in the evening to do extra work thinking it increases their productivity. This can actually lead to burnout. It’s important to set up a clear line where work stops and life begins when you’re working from home. Do not fill up your days with work-related tasks. Take breaks. Do something else during your free time.

    • 7. Get out once in a while

When you’re in a traditional office, you don’t have a choice but to go somewhere when work is done. The same thing should apply to a home office setup. Get out of the house at least once daily. The fresh air and natural light can actually boost your productivity and refresh your mind. Do something else while you’re on break. Don’t just stay on your desk.

      8. Maintain a dedicated workspace

This might be tricky especially if you live in a studio apartment or you’re sharing with several roommates. It is important to set aside a space in your home where you can actually work. It’s okay if this means working in your bedroom. Just make sure that you make your bed everyday and you keep your space clutter free.

      9. It’s okay to take a sick day

Just because you’re working from home does not mean that you can keep working even when you’re not feeling well. Don’t attempt to power through the illness. Remember that you’re more productive when your body is well-rested and healthy. Take sick days and consider them part of your compensation package.

      10. Stay healthy

When you work near your refrigerator, it’s easy to just keep on snacking at random times during the day. Too much snacking can make you feel sluggish especially when you’re eating junk food.
